Steven Lester
, Intramural Sports and Events Coordinator

Hometown: Richmond, Virginia
Age/Birthday: 22, February 11th
Major/Year: Air Traffic Management; Senior
Sports Officiated: Flag Football, Ice Hockey, Volleyball, Basketball, and Soccer
Bio: Steven was hired by Campus Recreation as a freshman as the first sports official at ASU Poly in August 2007. He hopes to pursue a career as an Air Traffic Controller and grew up playing ice hockey. He has led the student effort for four years to fund and create the new Student Recreation Complex. He has officiated three NIRSA NCCS West Regional Tournaments at ASU and UCLA for Flag Football, and in 2011, he officiated the 2011 NIRSA NCCS National Championship Tournament at Texas A&M University for a nationally televised audience alongside the top college officials in the nation. He was the first Poly referee to officiate a NIRSA tournament. As support staff, he has worked two NIRSA NCCS West Regional Tournaments at UNLV for Basketball. In addition, he has participated in other NIRSA conferences including the 2009 NIRSA National Conference in Anaheim, California; the 2010 National Facilities Conference in Fort Worth, Texas; and the 2010 National Intramurals Conference in Tucson, Arizona. He has been a certified USA Hockey official since 2001 and has officiated high level youth, high school, and former college, professional, and NHL players in various adult leagues. This year is his third year as the Intramural Sports and Events Coordinator, his fourth year as a supervisor, and his fifth year as a Sports Official.

 

 

Arreon Miller,  Intramural Sports Supervisor

Hometown: San Diego, California
Age/Birthday: 21, March 20th
Major/Year: Sociology; Senior
Sports Officiated: Flag Football and Basketball
Bio: Arreon was hired by Campus Recreation as a sophomore in 2009 and believes it has been a great experience. He has been involved in almost every recreation event held on Poly and has participated in a majority of them. He primarily participates in the Flag Football Intramural League and the Lacrosse Club, which he participates on a regular basis. He strongly believes that all students should get involved either working or participating in Campus Recreation because of the fun and active atmosphere it promotes. He has worked as staff in one NIRSA NCCS West Regional Tournament at UNLV for Basketball and has played in one NIRSA NCCS West Regional Tournament at ASU for Flag Football in 2010 representing the ASU Polytechnic Campus. This year is his second year as an Intramural Sports Supervisor.

 

 

 

 

Brian Dunn, Intramural Sports Supervisor

Hometown: Phoenix, Arizona
Age/Birthday: 20, April 17th
Major/Year: Air Traffic Management; Junior
Sports Officiated: Flag Football, Volleyball, Basketball, and Soccer
Bio: Brian was hired by Campus Recreation as a freshman in 2009 and has worked as an official for all four sports we offer on campus in Intramurals. He was the co-Special Events Director for 2010-2011, and continues to work as one of the more experienced Sports Officials and as a Supervisor this year. He has officiated the ASU Pan Campus Tournament for the past two years for Flag Football and has worked the Basketball Pan Campus Tournament once. He loves hiking and playing sand volleyball, and he cannot wait to contribute more to Poly Campus Recreation. This year is his second year as an Intramural Sports Supervisor.

 

 

 

 

Kylie Powell, Intramural Sports Supervisor

Hometown: Gilbert, Arizona
Age/Birthday: 21, November 21st
Major/Year: Literature Writing, Film, and Family and Human Development; Senior
Sports Officiated: Flag Football and Basketball
Bio:Kylie was hired by Campus Recreation as a sophomore in 2009. She quickly progressed from a sports official to scorekeeper to supervisor, and worked as the Assistant Intramural Sports Coordinator in 2010-2011. She has worked as staff for one NIRSA West Regional Flag Football Tournament at ASU and one NIRSA West Regional Basketball Tournament at UNLV, as well as having participated in other NIRSA conferences including the 2010 National Facilities Conference in Fort Worth, Texas and the 2010 National Intramurals Conference in Tucson, Arizona. She continues to work in Intramural Sports as a Supervisor, but now serves as the Facility Coordinator for the Physical Activity Center and Williams School Gym. She has been an Intramural Sports Supervisor for two and a half years.

 

 

 

 

Matt Lavoie, Intramural Sports Supervisor

Hometown: Worchester, Massachusetts
Age/Birthday: 21, February 7th
Major/Year: Pre-Vet; Senior
Sports Officiated: Flag Football, Volleyball, Basketball, and Soccer
Bio: Matt was hired by Campus Recreation as a sophomore in 2009. Working in Campus Recreation has been important to him, and he is proud of the experience he has gained and the friends he has made. Like Arreon, he has officiated and participated in many of our sports leagues, and played in the NIRSA NCCS West Regional at ASU for Flag Football in 2010, representing the ASU Polytechnic Campus. Alongside Derek, this is his first year as an Intramural Sports Supervisor.

 

 

 

 

 

Jeffrey Vance, Director of Campus Recreation

Hometown: Chandler, Arizona
Birthday: October 24th
Alma Mater/Degrees: Ohio State University; B.S. Aviation, M.A. Sports Administration
Sports/Leagues Officiated: Flag Football, High School Football, High School Soccer, NCAA Soccer
Bio: Jeff started the Campus Recreation program at ASU Polytechnic in November 2004. Since this time, improvements have been made in all areas including expansion of the Physical Activity Center hours and facility, extended swimming pool hours, indoor open gym time, expanded intramural programs, and supporting the student initiatives for construction of a new campus recreation center. Jeff has been very active in NIRSA NCCS tournaments. He has been a officiating clinician/evaluator for three NIRSA NCCS West Regional Flag Football Tournaments at ASU in 2007, 2008, and 2010. In the 2010 tournament, he served the Director of Officials. He also escorted an ASU Poly team, two officials, and three staff to the 2010 NIRSA NCCS West Regional Basketball Tournament at UNLV. In addition, he has attended numerous regional and national NIRSA conferences including several annual NIRSA conferences, the 2010 Intramurals Conference in Tucson, Arizona, and the 2010 Facilities Conference in Fort Worth, Texas. He has been the Campus Recreation Director at ASU Polytechnic for seven years.
